The workers will need to be vigilant."Įmpires of the Undergrowth is an ant colony management game, done in a fast-paced Real-Time Strategy style. Their priority now is to find food, and there is plenty around but there are other hungry creatures in the undergrowth. Her first brood will need to move quickly if the colony is to survive. Once you have 30+ mortars they become the game's equivalent of a thermonuclear autocannon and will just nuke everything to bits, no matter how big or numerous it is."Your queen has set up home beneath a rotting log.

Generally the Formica rufa shooters have an absolutely insane DPS and the mortars even get area damage when upgraded to level 3. The harvesting groups for the aphid tiles should consist of about 10-16 workers plus an attached 6-9 mortars (upgraded as far as possible) - the workers are useless in combat even when upgraded but the 6-9 shooters (which have the DPS of about 50+ workers) should be able to deal with most of the approaching critters (except maybe the really big ones).

Clear the underground mostly during the day when there's no critters above ground to eat but be careful to not get hit by an attack wave while fighting a large bettle underground (placing speed tiles helps a lot with getting around quickly).

On easy (and to a lesser degree on medium) you don't even need soldiers, basic unupgraded workers will do as a meat shield.īuild around 16 workers and then start building 4-6 mortars, further on build more mortars, upgrade them to level 3 as soon as possible and then build mostly mortars plus another group of around 16 workers (and late game some soldiers when you have the food, otherwise stick with more workers as meat shield).ĭon't hide underground during the night, go out and kill the critters, they give tons of food.
